Norline Engineering Dry Season Club Championships - Round 2
The Territory
Quad Association held Round 2 of the Norline Engineering Dry Season Club
Championships last weekend and although junior numbers were down due to the
school holidays it was a full-on day with plenty of race action.
Honda mounted
rider Blake Waldmann made a clean sweep on the day taking out first place
honours in all three races of the the Pro class. Josh Hector and Yamaha rider Mark Allcorn battled for second
and third places with Hector riding consistently for overall second place
honours. Race three in the class
provided the most action with KTM
mounted Matthew Stone snatching the holeshot, however Allcorn quickly gained
the lead with Waldmann getting caught in the pack in fifth position. Waldmann ground down the race leaders
to finish a convincing first, with Hector and Allcorn in second and third
places.
Can-Am rider
Lachlan Stone made a return to the track for the first time in 2011 in the
Intermediate Class. A dnf in race
one cost Stone the overall win for the day, however Ashley McGough put in a
classy, determined performance to take out first place honours.
The very
competitive 200/300cc junior class was down in numbers with Jesse Tinning and Jordan Bennett both out with
injuries sustained in Round 1 of the series. Ben Lloyd and Ryan Shenton were also missed from the class
but this didn't stop Yamaha mounted Hayden Bennett and riders Adam Lloyd, Zoe
Woods and Jamie Aylott from providing some top competitive action in the
class. Bennett was unstoppable
finishing with three clear wins, with Lloyd and Woods in second and third
places respectively.
Young gun Ryan
Thomas didn't make it to the start gates, with mechanical issues in the
practice laps forcing him to retire for the day. This left the 90cc/110cc Comp. Class wide open with Apex
mounted Brandon Geers making a clean sweep of all three races and Corey Bennett
and Mitchell Reilly battling neck and neck for second and third place
honours.
Last, but never
least, the 90cc/110cc Limited class provided some of the closest race action of
the day. Zayne Corpus held on to
take out overall first place on the day, however Ellie Lavercombe and Jake
Spencer didn't make it easy for him with Lavercombe snatching the victory in
race three.
Round 3 of the
series will be on Sunday 7 August at the Mickett Creek track.
