The Territory Quad
Association held Round 3 of the Norline Engineering Run-Off Series at the Mickett Creek track last
Sunday. Action was aplenty in the
Pro Class with Honda mounted Blake Waldmann holding off a determined charge
from Mark Allcorn on his Yamaha. Waldmann won all three races convincingly to take a clear lead in the
series. Father and son duo from
Katherine, Cameron and Shaan Dunwell fought it out, swapping positions
throughout the day, to finish third and fourth respectively on their Suzuki’s. The Intermediate class saw the biggest
battle of the day, with Kawasaki mounted Ashley McGough fighting off Craig
Dyer’s challenge for first place honours. These two guys might be
friends off the track, but you wouldn’t know it when you see them racing. Jason McArthur was plagued with
mechanical problems, but a
borrowed quad saw him finish the last race in third place.
As always the
200/300cc Junior class was hotly contested with Jesse Tinning on his Yamaha in
fine form to take out first place honours. Hayden Bennett battled with mechanical issues all day but
still put in a classy performance to finish second. Battling it out with the guys was sole female rider for the
class, Zoe Woods, who gave the
boys something to think about. Zoe finished convincingly in third place overall, just in front of Ryan Shenton who rode
hard for fourth place. Dylan
Nitschke was another rider who experienced mechanical issues throughout the
day, with Brandon Geers and Jamie Aylott fighting it out in all three races.
Pocket rocket Ryan
Thomas on his Cobra had his work cut out for him in race 1 with Apex mounted Brandon
Geers taking out a big lead resulting in an exciting win for Geers in the
90cc/110cc Junior Comp Class. Thomas fought back in the following two races, riding hard and fast to
grab the overall win for the day. Ben Shenton demonstrated his race skills, leading the pack several times and pushing Thomas and Geers
to the limit, to finish in third position overall. Corey Bennett, Regan Bartlett and Mitchell Reilly also
performed well on the day, finishing 4th, 5th and 6th
respectively.
Jasmin Timney, Shaun
McCourt and Eddie Tattingham rode their classes in the combined senior races,
which made for some action on the start line and the battle for holeshot. These guys held their own against some
stiff competition from the Pro and Intermediate classes.
Last but definitely
not least, were the 90cc/110cc Junior Limited class. These talented young riders offer a promising future for our
sport. Polaris mounted Zayne Corpus
displayed his budding race skills with two clear wins for the day. However, Ellie Lavercombe, not to be
outdone, snatched the final victory for the day in race three. Jake Spencer had an off in race 1
resulting in a dnf, but got back in the saddle and rode hard in the following
two races, but Kaley Bartlett’s consistent riding kept him from a third place
finish.
